PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate such as inconvenience that ink runs out in the way of the printing on one page of paper and the printing is interrupted thereby. SOLUTION: This ink jet recorder comprises a first inspecting means 36 for inspecting whether or not an ink cartridge is in an out-of-ink condition periodically during the printing on a recording paper and a second inspecting means 37 for inspecting whether or not the ink cartridge is in an out-of-ink condition during the discharging of the recording paper. Threshold values which are to be compared with each quantity of consumed ink of the respective cartridges which is measured by an ink consumption quantity calculating means 29 are respectively supplied to the first and second inspecting means 36, 37 by a threshold value setting means 38. The threshold value to be supplied to the first inspecting means 36 is set to be greater than the threshold value to the second inspecting means 37. |
