PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high efficiency firing apparatus for lime mud which can be made small and compact. SOLUTION: Lime mud is charged, as a raw material, into a fluidized bed drier 10 whose fluidized bed is constituted of a particulate fluidized medium and is dried. The dried lime mud is introduced into a fluidized bed firing furnace 14 and fired to form quicklime fine powder. The fluidized bed of the fluidized bed firing furnace 14 is constituted of a particulate fluidized medium which has been obtained using, as main raw material, dry fine powder raw material collected from the dry discharge gas by a drier cyclone 52. The discharged gas from the fluidized bed firing furnace 14 is introduced into a firing furnace cyclone 26, and fired quicklime fine powder is separated and collected from the discharged gas. The collected quicklime fine powder is charged into an air flow-type cooler 30 and brought into contact with cooling air and cooled. The discharged gas from the firing furnace cyclone 26 is introduced into a wind box of the fluidized bed drier 10 and the gas is used as fluidizing gas and drying gas, thereby heat is recovered.
