PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a stone material which is inexpensive, has corrosion resistance and wear resistance and does not lose photoactivity by impregnating a titanium oxide sol added with silicic acid with the stone material, then adhering a film so as to attain a specific thickness and sintering the stone material at a specific temperature. SOLUTION: The thickness of the film is 0.01 to 1.0 mm and the temperature range for sintering is 60 to 500 deg.C. The smooth stone material is used for a base material and is washed with water to get rid of stains. The photocatalyst sol is dilute about 4 times to soak the base material. The sol is dried at atmosphere temperature and is dried for 0.5 to 2 hours at 500 deg.C. The base material is again subjected to immersing, drying and firing. The stone material having the smooth surface and more particularly the antimicrobial stone material which is strongly deposited even to a decorative stone may be produced. The adhesion of algae and microorganisms which are the cause for staining is averted by adding copper sulfate to the sol and the stone material exhibits the sufficient photoactivity even in the water or atmosphere of the poor environment conditions. The growth of weeds is suppressed if the stone material is utilized for the tombs of a graveyard and the paving stone around the same. A deodorant remedy is obtained by the combination use of the paving stone of a pethouse and UV rays (black light, etc.). The stone material is used as the paving stone of a water tank for fancy fishes.
