PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel material which allows the optical control of magnetic susceptibility by utilizing photochromism. SOLUTION: The photochromic molecular materials is composed of a diheroarylethene based compound having a heteroaryl portion formed of a dihetero 5-membered ring having at least two radical substituents, preferably a compound represented by the formula (wherein A and B are each a hetero 5-membered ring on which at least two radical substitutents are present).
