PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject inhibitor against matrix metalloproteinases belonging to a gelatinase group which excels in cutaneous senility preventive or improving action and is highly safe and is useful in basic cosmetics or makeup cosmetics by including an extract from Thymus serpyllum L. SOLUTION: This inhibitor is obtained by including preferably 0.0001-20.0 wt.%, more preferably 0.001-10.0 wt.% of an extract from Thymus serpyllum subsp.quinquecostatus (botanical name: Thymus serpyllum L.) as a dry matter. The above extract is obtained by immersing or heating under reflux the whole grass of the above plant in or with an extraction solvent such as ethanol followed by filtration and then concentrating the filtrate. This inhibitor is useful in hair cosmetics, bath preparations, etc. |
