PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preventing formation of a diphenylalkane as a by-product to produce a monoalkyl aromatic hydrocarbon in higher yield by using a feed aromatic hydrocarbon, olefin and diluent composed of an alkyl derivative for the reaction in the presence of zeoliteβcatalyst. SOLUTION: This method is to (A) send a feed aromatic hydrocarbon, olefin and diluent composed of an alkyl derivative to the alkylation zone, and (B) react the aromatic hydrocarbon and olefin with each other in the presence of zeoliteβcatalyst, to produce the monoalkyl aromatic hydrocarbon. Molar ratio of the phenyl group per alkyl group corresponding to the olefin is (0.75:1) to (25:1), and the olefin content, based on the feed aromatic hydrocarbon, olefin and diluent composed of an alkyl derivative sent to the alkylation zone, is lower than the level given by the formula MWO/(6.17×MWA+MWO) wt.% (MWO is molecular weight of the olefin and MWA is molecular weight of the aromatic hydrocarbon).
|
