PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent lubricating oil from being mixed with oil so as to prevent waste of lubricating oil, even if oil rises excessively up to an upper part of a tappet. SOLUTION: This fuel injection pump 10 is provided with a cylindrical tappet 21 in which a lower end of a plunger 13 inserted into a plunger barrel 12 is attached to an upper part and a cam 18 of a cam shaft 19 comes into contact with a lower part and a pump housing 11 in which a tappet chamber 22 in which the plunger barrel 12 is fixed in an upper part to collect lubricating oil 16 in a lower part and a cam chamber 17 in which the cam shaft 19 is inserted is formed to store the tappet 21 slidably in an intermediate part is formed. A groove 29 whose lower end communicates with the cam chamber 17 and upper end is opened in the tappet chamber 22 above the tappet 21 is formed on a side wall of the tappet chamber 22. The groove 29 is formed on the side wall opposing to a key way 28 in the direction in which the cam 18 scrapes down lubricating oil 16.
