PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent misdiagnosis by detecting fault in a fuel injection valve actuator according to results of stored signal state, which stores the generation of a driving pulse applied to a fuel injection valve as ON-OFF state and is inverted when counter-electromotive force is generated at the fuel injection valve. SOLUTION: Fuel injection pulse width is calculated by a microcomputer 7, based on various data obtained from each sensor. Using drive pulse signals T1 to T4 generated, transistors 1a to 1d are energized to excite solenoids #1 to #4 to cause a fuel injection valve to open. Counter-electromagnetic force is generated at the solenoids #1 to #4 at pulse fall-time. At this time, the generation of the drive pulse signals is stored as on/off state, and state of signal stored when the counter-electromagnetic force is generated is inverted. When inverted results is in the predetermined signal state while the next drive pulse signal changes from on to off, it is decided as a fault in a fuel injection valve actuator.
