An electrochemical biosensor for determining short chain carnitine and acylcarnitines in fluids comprises a structure including a measuring cell for measuring significant quantities of L-carnitine and its derivatives. An electrochemical biosensor for determining short chain carnitine and acylcarnitines in fluids comprises a structure including a measuring cell for measuring significant quantities of L-carnitine and its derivatives. It uses an electrode as the base with multiple membranes bonded to it, arranged for allowing the measuring reaction and hindering the deterioration and/or contamination of the active electrode. An Independent claim is also included for a process for the analytical determination of L-carnitine and its derivatives using the above sensor.
