PURPOSE: Provided is a method for removing heavy metals efficiently from contaminated waste matter using a sulfur-oxidizing bacteria, Thiobacillus thiooxidans MET(KCTC 8928P). CONSTITUTION: A method comprises the steps of; mixing aerobically and anaerobically digested sludge and activated sludge(1) containing insoluble heavy metals and the sulfur-oxidizing bacteria, Thiobacillus thiooxidans MET(KCTC 8928P) and free sulfur(8) as an energy source in a reactor(2); under air, stirring the mixture until the sludge have pH 1.5-2.5; dewatering the sludge in a dewatering device(3); neutralizing the dewatered sludge using a limestone(9) in a mixing device(4); neutralizing the waste liquid containing the heavy metals in a neutralizing tank(5); precipitating the heavy metals in a precipitating tank(6).
