PURPOSE: An optical pickup device is provided to promote a regular track servo control by detecting tracking error signals with +- error diffracted beam. CONSTITUTION: An LD(Laser Diode,20) emits laser beams. The laser beams are converted into parallel beams by a collimating lens(25). An objective lens(70) focuses the incident beam via a beam splitter(30) to form optical spots on the recording face of a disk(80). An actuator(60) drives the objective lens. A hologram element(40) passes the incident beams directly from the LD and diffracts the other incident beams reflected from the disk. The hologram element consists of a first and a second hologram region having different diffraction characteristics. A photodetector(90) includes a central beam receiving region for receiving 0th order diffracted beams via the hologram element, and neighboring receiving regions for receiving +- error diffracted beams divided in a cross direction by the hologram regions. An optical pickup device detects tracking error signals by using the +- error diffracted beams obtained by the hologram regions.
