PURPOSE: A video BIOS check apparatus and a method of a computer are provided to compare and check a video BIOS version of a system BIOS and an external video BIOS version when a user engages a video BIOS into a video card or another video card is installed and select a latest video BIOS version for thereby decreasing a cost and implementing a convenient computer system. CONSTITUTION: A CPU checks a video BIOS of a ROM. The CPU judges whether an external video card is installed in an expansion slot(S32). If the external video card is installed in the expansion slot, the CPU judged whether a video BIOS is installed in the card(S33). The CPU checks the video card(S34) and judges a chip recognition number(S35). Even when the external video card is not installed, if the video BIOS is not installed in the video card, the CPU loads a video BIOS of the ROM into a RAM through a system bus by controlling the video controller(S37). If the video card BIOS is the product of the current computer company, the version code is judged, and a new version is judged(S36). If the video BIOS is a new version, the CPU loads the video card BIO into the RAM through the system bus by controlling the video controller, otherwise the CPU loads the video card BIOS of the ROM into the RAM through the system bus by controlling the video controller.
