PURPOSE: Shock absorbing structure of a roof side rail is provided to protect occupants from upper interiors by padding a shock absorbing member inserting foam between a side rail and the inner panel of a roof. CONSTITUTION: Shock absorbing structure for a roof side rail consists of an outer rail(11) and an inner rail(12). One end of the structure is bonded to an outer panel(1) of a roof and the other end is bonded to one end of a lining(3). The other end of the lining is bonded to an inner panel(2) of the roof. A foam(20) inserting a buffering device(21) such as a rubber or a metal tube inside, is padded between the inner rail of the side rail and the inner panel of the roof. Thus, in case of an accident, shock is transmitted to the outer panel and the side rail first and then to the foam secondly. After that, the buffering device diffuses energy to thirdly absorb shock.
