PURPOSE: A playing method with variable velocity is provided to search data within a short time by changing playback velocity depending on a playback position of a disk. CONSTITUTION: A microcomputer checks key input for variable playback and checks logical zone division by reading TOC(Table Of Contents). If the head of a title is checked, the microcomputer plays back a disk at constant velocity. Then, the microcomputer converts the constant velocity into high velocity and finishes playing back the disk at the end of a film or a title. A user selects a desired title based on the checked contents and plays back the title. The microcomputer divides the entire playback time of a title into several zones and checks each zone. If the title head is checked, the microcomputer plays back the title at constant velocity and then at high velocity until the title is finished. Therefore, the user selects a desired title exactly by checking the entire contents of the disk.
