PURPOSE: A tension control system of a VCR(Video Cassette Recorder) is provided to control a tape tension depending on purposes with precision by sensing the tape tension with a photosensor and driving a tension motor. CONSTITUTION: A tension sensor(30) having a photosensor is connected with a tension lever(2) to position a spring(3) in a groove of the photosensor. A tension motor(20) adopts a stepping motor(22) having a lead screw(23) coupled with a moving member(24). A tension member has a wire(40) forming a coil spring(40a) fixed to the moving member of the tension motor. An electric control unit consists of a compensating amplifier(50) for amplifying photosensor signals, a microcontroller(60) outputting control signals, and a motor drive(70) outputting control signals for driving the tension motor. The tape tension is measured by the photosensor, and the tension motor is controlled electrically. The tension is changed variably depending on kinds and quality of used tapes with high precision. Therefore, the tension control system is useful for an HD(High Definition) VCR.
