PARALLEL DECOMPRESSOR FOR RE-COMPRESSED PIXEL DATA IN MPEG DECODER

PURPOSE: A parallel decompressor for re-compressed pixel data in a MPEG decoder is provided to provide image data from a memory to a motion compensation network in a MPEG compatible decoder. CONSTITUTION: A parallel decompressor for re-compressed pixel data in a MPEG decoder includes a memory(60), a plurality of decompressors(18,20,21,22), a compressor(40,42) and an input network(12,14). The memory(60) stores image data which is re-compressed in the plurality of compressors. The plurality of decompressors(18,20,21,22) decompresses the data decompressed the compressed MPEG compatible data so as to generate decompressed data. The compressors are similar to each other and operate synchronously and re-compresses the decompressed data so as to generate the recompressed data. The input network receives data streams of compressed MPEG compatible data.
