PURPOSE: A method for producing novel organically modified aerogels is provided which can be performed using a general surface modifying agent, and without replacing water into other solvent. CONSTITUTION: A method as follows: a) a hydrogel is provided; b) the surface of the hydrogel obtained in step (a) is modified, and c) the modified surface of the gel obtained in step (b) is dried, and the use thereof. Provided are also novel organically modified wet gels, a method for the production and the use thereof.
