PURPOSE: A field emission emitter and a method for manufacturing the same are provided to improve the light emitting efficiency by forming a sharp tip portion as a ring shape to enlarge an available area. CONSTITUTION: A field emission emitter comprises an emitter electrode and a tip. The emitter electrode is formed on a surface of a substrate. The tip is formed on the emitter electrode. The tip has a sharp portion of a ring shape. A resistance layer is formed between the emitter electrode and the tip. An insulating layer and a gate electrode are laminated sequentially on the resistance layer around the tip. An insulating layer and a gate electrode are formed on the emitter electrode at an outside of the tip.
