PURPOSE: A device and method for controlling width of conveyer of surface mounting device is provided to enable users to successfully and easily convey various sizes of printed circuit board which is attached with various semiconductors device and electronic device by adjusting the width of conveyer. CONSTITUTION: A device and method for controlling width of conveyer of surface mounting device includes the following components. A motor(22,23) is activated so as to move the conveyer guide as much as the inputted width. An encoder(26) which is attached to more than one of the motors(22,23) is activated. A conveyer moves as much as the inputted width. A marking unit(18) of the conveyer guide(10,11) detects the amount of movement of the conveyer.
