PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF VINYL ACETATE

PURPOSE: A process for producing vinyl acetate is provided by reacting ketene and acetaldehyde in a contact zone in the presence of an acid catalyst. CONSTITUTION: A process for preparing vinyl acetate comprises the steps of 1) contacting, at a temperature of about 85°C to about 200°C and at a pressure of about 0.05 to about 20 bars absolute, a mixture of ketene and acetaldehyde with an acid catalyst in a contact zone and 2) recovering vinyl acetate from the contact zone.
