PURPOSE: Provided is a Plutella xylostella baculovirus (PxMNPV) which is useful for the control of insect pests being isolated. A variety of insect pests may be controlled by application of an insecticidally effective amount of the baculovirus to the locus or vicinity of the target insect. CONSTITUTION: A viral agent comprising a biologically pure Plutella xylostella multiple nuclear polyhydrosis virus that has all of the identifying characteristics of ATCC VR-2543 is prepared. Said insects are selected from the group consisting of Plutella xylostella, Helicoverpa zea, Heliothis subflexa, Heliothis virescens, Trichoplusia ni, Spodoptera frugiperda, and Spodoptera exigua.
