The connectors include blocking flaps, and a sliding plate which enables assembly when correctly fitted together. The electrical connector (20) comprises a box (22) with at least one contact (23) in a chamber. A blocking flap (26) is provided which has two positions. In its first position it allows the contact to be introduced into the chamber, whilst in its second position the contact is blocked within the chamber. A complementary connector (1) comprises a box (2) with a neck to receive the connector (20), and a chamber containing at least one contact (5), with a blocking flap (7). The connector (20) may not be introduced into the collar if the flap (26) is in its terminal blocking position. A plate (16) is mounted to move within the collar, and is displaced in a the direction of plugging the connectors together when the connector (20) is introduced in to the collar. This plate only allows complete coupling if the flap (7) is in its terminal position.
