The appts. to clean wound cops (1), as it is being moved on a conveyor between stations, has a drive system to rotate the cops round its center axis so that the cop surface is wholly treated by the cleaning unit as the conveyor carries it through. The cop rotation is in the winding direction of the yarn round the cop. The cleaning system has a suction unit (17) with at least one suction slit (18) aligned at the cop (1). The suction slit (18) is angled against the cop center axis within a plane parallel to the movement plane of the cop (1). The suction slit (18) moves up the cop (1) in the direction of cop travel. Any height difference through the cop (1) length is matched at the suction slit (18) during the cop rotation to present its surface to the slit. The cop is rotated at an adjustable speed, and the cop rotation drive is set so that the rotary movement is also the transport movement. The cop (1) is placed over a carrier spindle (16) of a caddie (3) as the cop conveyor. The cop rotation is through two continuous belts flanking the caddie (3) which grip the caddie circumference and rotate it.
