<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize satisfactory electron emission characteristics and high luminance over long time. SOLUTION: This electron emission element has end parts facing each other through a first gap 6 between a pair of electrode members 2, 3 on the main surface of an insulating substrate 1 and is provided with a first and second conductive film members 4 electrically connected to the pair of electrode members 2, 3, respectively. A first and second carbon, containing film members 10 having a second gap 7 for forming an electron emission part 5, are formed on the first and second conductive film members 4, respectively. In the case of the first and second carbon containing film members 10 having the second gap 7 and facing each other,π-plasmon loss energy is in the range of around 4.5 to 5.5 eV, and the intensity of theπ-plasmon loss peak is around 70% of that of single-crystal graphite or higher.</p> |
