PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce time required for adjusting tracking balance. SOLUTION: The number of cycles of the waveform of a tracking error signal that is detected when an optical disk 1 is rotated is counted for a fixed amount of time by a waveform-counting circuit 131. It is judged whether the number of cycles has reached a specific number or not by a judging circuit 133. Then, if it is judged that the number of cycles has reached the specific number, the center voltage of the tracking error signal is taken out by an LPF 6 as a bias value. Otherwise, a sled 2 is moved by a motor 11 and a center voltage is taken out by the LPF 6 as a bias value for the tracking error signal being detected by the move of the optical pick-up 1. Also, when the optical pick-up 1 moves, the traveling direction of the optical pick-up 1 is determined by a limit switch 12 for detecting the innermost periphery position of an optical disk 3, thus performing control so that the optical pick-up 1 can be returned to its original position based on traveling time.
