<p>A waste treatment plant comprises a fermentation structure (10, 56) including two rows of closable cells (12) for processing of waste therein to produce biogas. The two rows are separated by at least two vertically spaced passageways (32, 34, 36). For each cell (12), waste in the cell (12) at the respective heights of the passageways can be monitored, respectively, from the corresponding passageway (32, 34, 36). Additionally, one of the passageways can be used to house fluid distribution means (46, 48, 49) communicating with each cell (12) for collection of biogas and distribution of leachate. Alternatively, a single row of cells (12) can be built adjacent a greenhouse (20) (or other building) so that biogas from the cells can be used to heat the greenhouse (70) (or power processes in the other building).</p> |
