An ultrasonic imaging apparatus for capturing and displaying an ultrasonic image of an object on a display by applying ultrasonic waves to the object, receiving ultrasonic waves reflected from the object, and by forming an image from the received ultrasonic waves. The ultrasonic imaging apparatus comprises an image capturing state mark display unit for displaying the image capturing state mark indicating the state in capturing the ultrasonic image on the display unit, an image storage unit for storing a plurality of ultrasonic images, and an image retrieving unit for retrieving at least one of the ultrasonic images stored in the image storage unit by using the image capturing state mark, and for displaying the retrieved image on the display unit. As a result, a desired ultrasonic image can be retrieved easily and accurately from the image storage unit and can be displayed.
