PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical head device having high light utilization efficiency, easily positioned and capable of preventing the effect of variation per hour such as a positional shift after manufacturing. SOLUTION: A slab waveguide 2 guides a light from a light source 4. A waveguide mirror 5 converges the light from the light source 4, wave-guided by the slab waveguide 2, on an end surface 1A opposite the recording medium 7 of the slab waveguide 2. A photodetector 6 receives a signal light modulated by the record medium 7 and wave-guided by the slab waveguide 2. A photocoupler couples the signal light with the photodetector 6. The slab waveguide 2, the waveguide mirror 5, the photodetector 6 and the photocoupler are formed on the same semiconductor substrate in a monolithic manner. Since by using the slab waveguide 2, an optical path from the light source 4 to a condenser unit and an optical path to the photodetector 6 of a scattered light made incident from the end surface are set as the same waveguide, the light modulated by the record medium is efficiently guided to the photodetector 6. |
