PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a developing device and a method for controlling the same by which a developer carrier is not damaged even though the developing device is driven from a condition where toner does not exist. SOLUTION: As for developing devices 6 and 7 having the developer carrier which is disposed to face oppositely to an image carrier 1 and by which a latent image on the carrier 1 is developed by developer carried on its surface, a developer supplying member extending and existing in the longitudinal direction of the developer carrier, and supplying the developer to the developer carrier 1, and a thin layer member making the developer on the developer carrier a thin layer, when the developer does not exist on the developer carrier and the devices 6 and 7 are driven, a means for reducing the electric load of the carrier 1 is provided. |
