<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface conductive type electron emission element, having good electron emission characteristic, in particular, high electron emission efficiency and to provide an electron source and an image forming device using it. SOLUTION: This element is so structured that a pair of conductive thin films 4 respectively electrically connected to a pair of electrodes 2, 3 are provided on the surface of a substrate 1, the pair of conductive thin films 4 are arranged facing oppositely to each other spaced by a first gap 7 between the pair of electrodes 2, 3, a pair of carbon containing films 21, 22 facing opposite to each other interlaying a second gap 8 in the first gap 7 are provided, one of the carbon containing films is electrically connected to one of a pair of the conductive thin films and the other carbon containing film electrically connected to the other of a pair of the conductive thin films. In this case, the ratio of the half-value width of energy distribution in an emission current during driving to the half-value width of the energy distribution at 1/4 of the emission current during drive (the half-value width of the energy distribution in a first emission current is the denominator) is set to 0.8-1.0.</p> |
