PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rare gas discharge lamp and a document irradiating reader and a display device capable of improving improve convergence of light emitted to the outside, using a relatively simple constitution. SOLUTION: This device has a luminescent layer 2 in its inner face, and is provided with an envelope sealed with rare gas in its inner space, and paired external electrodes 5, 6 comprising a metal member arranged in the outer circumference of the envelope 1. Cross-sectional shapes of envelope portions where the electrodes 5, 6 are lacated are formed into a substantially triangle, and the electrodes 5, 6 arranged separately in two adjacent outer circumferential faces 1B, 1C. |
