PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate an additional sound matched with performance music in an additional sound generating device of an electronic musical instrument. SOLUTION: Whether or not value (key touch amount) of a register VEL is larger than the prescribed value is decided in a step 94. When the decision result is affairmative (Y), a sound name of a depressed key sound is compared with a component sound of a chord related to a specification in an accompaniment key area in a step 96, and whether or not the depressed key sound is the component sound of the chord is decided in a step 98. When the decision result is affairmative (Y), one or plural sounds among the component sounds of the chord are sound generated as a harmony sound (additional sound) in a step 100. The depressed key sound is sound generated with the volume answering to the value of the VEL in a step 92. When the decision result in the step 94 or the step 98 is negative (N), since only the depressed key sound is sound generated in the step 92, the additional sound generation based on an erroneously depressed key and the additional sound generation not becoming familiar with a chord advance are prevented, and the additional sound generation becoming familiar with the chord advance becomes possible.
