USE OF SUPERABSORBENT POLYMERS FOR TREATING RAW SKINS, CORRESPONDING COMPOSITIONS AND METHODS AND RESULTING TREATED SKINS

The invention concerns the use of superabsorbent (co) polymers or SAP as treating agent for preserving animal skins. The SAP is preferably used in combination with salt or another hygroscopic agent, in particular 50 wt. % NaCl/50 wt. % SAP. The invention enables to obtain properly treated skins in only 24 hours and to use twice less salt than in prior art, while eliminating all the major drawbacks such as surface brine, salt in slaughter house waste and others.
