PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid the increases in the frequency or the discharge maintaining pulse voltage by dividing horizontal electrode pairs into plural groups and employing an addressing and sustain simultaneous driving system. SOLUTION: The period between discharge maintaining pulses being applied to X and Y electrodes are set so that the respective pulses have less than 180 deg. phase differences to secure the time to maintain uniform wall electric charges and a spatial electric charge characteristic. Then, plural discharge maintaining pulses are combined into one group and an address time slot made of plural data pulse within a secured time marginal space is set. Then, an addressing is performed by assigning the individual address time slot data to plural subfield time slots. At that time, an X electrode group has a certain potential in the segment where an address pocket exists in the time of the discharge maintaining pulse group and the discharge maintaining pulse group. |
