The invention relates to a device used for the highly resolved optical presentation of virtual reality scenarios. The inventive device comprises a data viewing appliance (1) having at least one display unit (11), especially a monitor, for optically reproducing analog or digital image data. The inventive device also comprises a device (2) which is provided for carrying out time-resolved detection of the viewing direction (22) of a viewer (4) who is looking at the display unit (11) and which is configured, in particular, for detecting the current viewing direction (22) of the viewer (4) toward the display unit (11). The inventive device is also provided with a computer unit (3) that is connected to the display unit (11) and to the device (2) for carrying out time-resolved detection of the viewing direction (22), whereby the computer unit (3) is disposed to generate scenes in a virtual reality simulation by using a control program, and is disposed to present these scenes to the viewer (4) via the display unit (11). In addition, the computer unit (3) is disposed to generate types of images in a central image area (12) which exhibit an increased depth of color AF (central) and/or an increased spatial resolution AR (central), and which exhibit a reduced depth of color AF (peripheral) and/or a reduced spatial resolution AR (peripheral) in a peripheral image area (13) lying outside of the central image area (12). The central image area (12) is selected such that it encompasses in an essentially complete manner that surface (25) on the displace unit (11) which is detected by the central visual field (23) of the viewer (4), whereby said central visual field (23) of the viewer (4) is given by an interval [0 DEG , beta (central, space/color)].
