PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To measure the distance from a sill to the indicated point of a rectangular reference gauge without raising tatami mats when old tatami mats are replaced with new tatami mats. SOLUTION: A reference tool 1 is provided with a putting surface 3 which is put on the upper surface of a sill on the upper rear side of a plate-like inserting section 2 and a receiving section 4 successively provided from the surface 3. The reference tool 1 is attached to both-side sills in a facing state and both ends of a scale S are brought into contact with the front faces 4a of the receiving sections 4. Since the front faces 4a of the receiving sections 4 are arranged on the same line together with the backs 2a of the inserting sections 2 which are brought into contact with the side faces of the sills, the state where both ends of the scale S are brought into contact with the front faces 4a becomes equivalent to a state where the scale S is brought into contact with the sills and dimensioning can be performed without raising tatami mats.
