PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a digital camera in which the generation of noise is prevented at a low cost. SOLUTION: A primary color filter is fitted to the front of a CCD imager 20. An optimum shutter speed is calculated on the basis of a camera signal outputted from the imager 20 at the time of preexposure. When the calculated optimum shutter speed is low, a timing generator 22 drives the imager 20 by a pixel mixed reading procedure. Electric charges are read out first from part of light receiving elements to a vertical transfer register and then transferred in the vertical direction. When the charges are transferred by a prescribed distance, charges are read out from another part of the light receiving elements. Thus electric charges corresponding to the same color element are mixed in the vertical transfer register. That is, filter processing for removing folded components is executed in the image 20. Consequently, noise can be removed without newly preparing a filter circuit.
