PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication equipment that can reduce a period required for processing from a detection of a channel fault until its restoration by omitting a hardware configuration for block control and applying software control to a series of processing from fault detection, block processing and block release processing. SOLUTION: This communication equipment is provided with a central control section 21 consisting of a relay line section 22, an interface management section 29 and a low speed line section 23, communication control sections 25, 28 and a compression control section 26. A fault/fault restoration of each of control sections 2, 25, 28, 26 is detected, and fault/fault restoration information detected by each of the control sections 2, 25, 28, 26 is transmitted to a control section 26 containing voice terminals through a message interface so as to control a corresponding control signal line. The line block/block release processing is executed in response to the received fault information.
