PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an A/D converter that realizes both reduction in power consumption and ensures conversion accuracy. SOLUTION: A subtracter circuit 306 that calculates the difference voltage between a reference voltage and an analog signal is added to an A/D converter, and an analog signal that is held is used for the reference voltage. Using only an A/D converter section 312 for low-order bit conversion this difference voltage is converted and an operating mode to stop the operation of a conversion section 340 not in use is provided for the A/D conversion.
