PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming device in which ineffective currents flowing through pertinent electron emitting elements are reduced by holding electron emitting elements which are not selected in high resistance states at the time of driving a display panel while successively selecting multiple electron beam sources which are constituted of a plurality of electron emitting elements and to provide a driving method therefor. SOLUTION: The column-direction driving part of this image forming device outputs, to pertinent elements, prescribed pulse voltages for providing high resistance states for shifting surface conduction type electron emitting elements which are included in the display panel to high resistance states in a timing from a moment when modulated signals (pulses) corresponding to the inputted video signal in a prescribed one horizontal synchronizing period have been outputted to nth column elements and to a moment when a device is not yet shifted to a next one horizontal synchronizing period.
