PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a heat developable image forming material which gives a sufficient image density even after long-term preservation and suppresses the sublimation of materials liable to cause problem in processing by holding a reducible silver salt, a reducing agent, a binder and a specified compound on at least one face of a substrate. SOLUTION: The heat developable image forming material contains a reducible silver salt, a reducing agent, a binder and at least one compound of the formula on at least one face of the substrate. In the formula, Y is a substituent, 0-4 symbols Y may bond to the ring, L is a divalent combining group, plural symbols L may be combined to form a composite group, B is a ballast group which imparts diffusion resistance to the compound of the formula in heat development, B is preferably 8-40C optionally substituted alkyl or aryl, (m) is an integer of 0-4 and (n) is an integer of 1-4. The ultrahigh-contrast image forming material is suitable for making a printing plate.
