PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmission type screen capable of displaying an image of high quality. SOLUTION: The content of light absorbing material per unit area at a central part is made larger than that at a peripheral part, so that a light transmissivity at the peripheral part becomes higher than that at the central part. Then, even in the case image light is projected on an incident surface through a projecting lens and the illuminance of the incident surface at the peripheral part is lower than that at the central part, the luminance of an outgoing surface is made nearly uniform at the central part and the peripheral part, then, the image of high quality is displayed.
