PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sample freezing apparatus in which the polishing operation of a sample compressed face is not required for each sample. SOLUTION: A copper block 18 is cooled by liquid nitrogen. Also, a surface block 19 which is buried in the copper block 18 is cooled. In a state that the surface block 19 is cooled, a sample treatment operator turns on a switch 17 so as to drop a driving rod 11. A sample collides with the surface Ssa of the surface block 19 so as to be compressed. Then, after a prescribed time elapses, the sample treatment operator turns off the switch 17, and a sample holder 9 which holds the cooled sample is separated from a clamp.
