The system for laying floor tiles has a carrier of a material which has shape stability but is pliable under pressure, using a plastics or natural rubber material. Trough shapes are formed on the carrier by straps, to take the inserted tiles which are slightly over size. The insertion of the tiles between the straps compresses the straps, to give a watertight and firm bond between them, so that the straps are visible joints and spacers between the tiles.
