The cylinder drum (7) of the axial piston engine (5) has an external bearing and is connected to the gearbox (6) by a centrally mounted torsion rod (17) which projects at one end into the cylinder drum and at the other into the gearbox. The torsion rod has torque transfer means at both ends for connecting the drum to the gearbox. the gearbox can be a planetary gearing and the toothed wheel at the gearbox end of the torsion rod can be a sunwheel (17a).
