An optoelectronic device (10) includes an evacuated chamber (12), a negatively-biased source electrode (20) disposed within the evacuated chamber and having a source lead (24) and a collector electrode (22) disposed within the evacuated chamber and having a collector lead (26). The device further includes a laser generator (30, 31) adapted to emit an optical field that is focused on the source electrode (20) to stimulate emission of rapidly varying electrical current from the source electrode, wherein the emission of the rapidly varying electrical current from the source creates a beam impedance. The device further includes an impedance match circuit (16) coupled to the source lead (24) and the collector lead (26) and a connector (18) coupled to the impedance match circuit (16), the connector (18) adapted to couple to a load impedance, wherein the impedance match circuit is adapted to match the beam impedance to the load impedance.
