PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hardness measuring apparatus by which the measured result of hardness is displayed so that a hardness distribution on a sample is easy to understand. SOLUTION: A storage part 60 stores coordinate data on every measuring position in an x-y coordinate system on an image which is obtained by imaging a sample 2. The storage part stores data about a hardness value which is measured in every measuring position. The storage part stores color-arrangement setting data. The color-arrangement setting data is composed of data about a plurality of small ranges which are obtained by dividing the range of the hardness value. In addition, the color-arrangement setting data is composed of data about a display color which corresponds to every small range. After the hardness value in every measuring position is measured, a control part 70 decides a display color which corresponds to the hardness value in every measuring position on the basis of the color-arrangement setting data. Then, a hardness distribution diagram which displays the decided display color in a position corresponding to every measuring position in the x-y coordinate system is displayed on the screen of a CRT display device 90.
