PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make the position of a moving body, such as the human being, etc., easily detectable with high accuracy by using reference points the positions of which are specified in advance. SOLUTION: A position detecting device is provided with a horizontal angle detecting means 6 which can be mounted on the head 2 of a human being and detects the horizontal angle formed of two of at least three reference points scattered in at least the horizontal direction when viewed from the head 2 and the head 2 as the direction of the head 2 moves and a horizontal position calculating means 7 which calculates the position of the head 2 in the horizontal plane from at least two horizontal angles formed of different combinations of the reference points and the positional information on the reference points. In addition, the detecting device is preferably provided with a sighting means 5 which sights the reference points in an interlocking way with the movement of the head 2 and is provided with a light source emitting a visible light beam 4.
