摘要 <p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal shutter which can control the gradation with fast response, which can be easily controlled for the alignment and which is excellent in stability. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal element is equipped with a pair of transparent substrates 1, 2, transparent counter electrodes 3, 4 facing each other on the inner faces of the respective transparent substrates pair 1, 2 and a liquid crystal layer 5 disposed between the counter electrodes 3, 4. As for the liquid crystal layer 5, a ferroelectric liquid crystal with addition of a photosetting liquid crystal is used and the liquid crystal layer 5 is produced by hardening the photosetting liquid crystal while DC voltage is substantially applied on the liquid crystal layer 5. Thus, the liquid crystal shutter thus obtd. shows fast response, has excellent stability of alignment and little defects and can control the gradation. A printer using this liquid crystal shutter is also provided.</p>
