PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a piezoelectric vibrating element where a stable overtone mode can be utilized by efficiently suppressing a minimum degree mode with excellent long-term reliability. SOLUTION: Since a vibration propagation section 2 thicker than a vibration element section 1 is integrated with the vibration element section 1 and a groove 6 is provided at a border between the vibration element section 1 and the vibration propagation section 2, a minimum degree mode is efficiently suppressed and an overtone mode can stably be utilized by an effect of leakage of vibration energy in the minimum degree mode via the vibration propagation section and an effect of increasing a resonance impedance of the minimum degree mode by an effect of a reflected wave of vibration in the minimum degree mode. Furthermore, since the vibration element section 1 and the vibration propagation section 2 are made of the same material, excellent long-term reliability can be obtained.
